Former USC School of Fine Arts Students Reunite

In April 2011, former USC School of Fine Arts classmates, Tommy Ardolino, Alan Streeter, Pamela Waddell, Lex Gable and David Dechant met at Dave's studio and reminisced about the past.

CCAG Annual Holiday Art Exhibition - November 2010

On Saturday, November 13th, the amazing artists of the Culver City Art Group presented their art at their annual exhibition at the Veteran's Memorial Building. A reception with refreshments and awards followed the all day show.

My watercolor and ink representation of Half Dome received an honorary mention award. The guest judge appreciated the contrasting diagonal lines and the looseness of lightness of the piece, stating it was "elegant."

"SNAP TO GRID: the UN-Juried Exhibit"
Every year for 50 years the L.A. Municipal Gallery has held its "Open Call" exhibit where any artist can show up with their art and an entry fee (to benefit gallery programs) and the piece is shown. The Los Angeles Center For Digital Art decided to launch an international experiment of the same nature where the artists upload images that are printed and hung by the gallery. The hundreds of works are displayed in a grid like installation (reminiscent of postcard art shows of the 1980's) where every work submitted is exhibited.

The usual (less than democratic) selection process where only the precious few are chosen is turned on its head in a curatorial anarchy where everyone gets to participate and the viewer is literally left to be the judge. The show represents a snapshot of a current moment in art history when digital imaging has reached the hands of the many, an age where culture belongs to the "mobblogers" around the globe. From Thailand to Texas, amateur to academic, beautiful to banal and beyond the monumental quantity and variety of "Snap to Grid" becomes an aesthetic experience where each individual piece adds to an agglomerative effect that has a life of its own.

On November 30th...what turned out to be a rainy dreary night... I was still delightfully happy to be included in a wonderful art exhibition representing the Huntington Gardens.

About the Artist's Work

Initially, the artist explored a pure positioning of moments in time relating to her past, her childhood and her ancestry. Later these themes developed into more layered investigations that exposed deeper influences. Compositions examine the spiritual connection to ourselves in transition and in stasis. "Situations and Destinations" was the theme of her first solo exhibition and all her work since then can easily be seen as built upon that theme. These layers relate to our locale, be it a personal narrative or a position in time. They relate to the matters that influence us and make us question them as an issue affecting our direction. Do we go forward? Or are we already in the past? Is this a shared experience or is it one I experience alone?

Her natural and unique talent lends itself well to the medium she chooses. Mostly working in acrylics, her pieces sometime display small found items from nature and daily life that belong to that moment, shedding light on the multi-layered theme. Most recently, she has developed a love for watercolors and the challenge that it hands her, allowing her to pursue new avenues of expression, as another layer of her working process.

While most of her work is typically along this personal exploration, she is often in demand in the private and public sector, lending her talents to create commissioned pieces, from conceptual fine art to commercial design.
